Ernest Lee Hammond, 90, of Jamestown, died Wednesday,

July 8, 2015 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean

Waddle Care Center. He was born December 5, 1924 in

Russell County to the late James Curtis & Mary Antle

Hammond.

Ernest joined the United States Army in April 1943. He

served in th European Area of World War II and was

discharged in September 1945. Ernest was among the millions

of World War II veterans who came home and went to work.

Upon coming home from the army he worked on the construction

of Wolf Creek Dam. He also was a farmer and a custodian of

Union Chapel Elementary School for 13 years.

Ernest professed his faith in Christ at the age of 23 and remained

a faithful member of the United Methodist Church until his death.

He dearly loved music. He was talented at playing the guitar and

fiddle. He was a song leader for 58 years at church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers;

Paul, Edgar, William Lawrence, Yul, and Ray Hammond.

Survivors

wife: Nora Coffey Hammond, Jamestown

son: Danny (Kay) Hammond, Columbia, Ky

grandson: Daniel (Tasha) Hammond, Lawrenceburg, Ky

3 great grandchildren: Anabel, Henry, & Roselyn Hammond.

Funeral service for Ernest Lee Hammond will be 10 AM.

Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel

with Bro. Bodie Emerson and Bro. Robert Morris officiating.

Visitation after 5 PM. Friday.

Interment in the Dixon Cemetery with full military honors

Pallbearers: Roger Coffey, Randall Coffey, Ralph Coffey,

                  Ricky Simpson, Adam Coffey, Junior Malone
