Buford Shepherd, of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Jamestown. He was 74 years of age.
Born July 28, 1951, in Sano, Kentucky, Buford was the only son of the late Nolen and Velma Adkins Shepherd. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and member of the Operating Engineers Union. Buford was husband, father and grandfather, and a member of the Bernard Ridge Church of God. He enjoyed fishing, bird hunting and horse racing.
Buford is survived by his wife, Rosetta Andrew Shepherd of Columbia; two sons; Ed Shepherd, and Bobby (and Linda) Shepherd, both of Russell Springs; three grandchildren; Bethany Stamm, Alex Snider, and Danielle Shepherd; and six great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
In addition to his parents, Buford was preceded in death by six sisters, Faye Doss, Alma Shepherd, Janice George, Nell Hudson, Joyce White, and Jean Long.
Funeral services are 12:00 PM on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Charles Shepherd and Brother Eric Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Shepherd Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until time of services on Monday, at Bernard Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ed Shepherd, Bobby Shepherd, DeWayne Neat, Doug Shepherd, Chris Long, and Steve Long.
