Garnet Lee Burton, of Russell Springs, passed from this life on January 9, 2025, at Russell County Hospital. He was 92 years of age.
Born October 11, 1932, in Russell Springs, he was a son of the late Leslie and Ruby Sinclair Burton. At 17, Garnet enlisted in the United States Army and served four years during the time of the Korean War. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, served in Vietnam, giving more than twenty years of service to his country. Garnet was a very creative person and craftsman. He enjoyed welding and doing woodwork. Garnet established his own cabinet business, Burton’s Cabinets, and made everything from grandfather clocks to highchairs. He also enjoyed raising a various menagerie of livestock – pigmy goats, llamas, Highland cattle and Paso Fino horses, just to name a few.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Shirley Hadley Burton, of Russell Springs; three daughters, Martina Burton, of Fairfield, Ohio, Jana (and Joseph) Howard, of Lexington, and Angela Page, of Clarksville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Idania (and Alex Osborne) Burton, Karina Burton, Emily (and Jacob Daugherty) Howard, Mark Howard, and Kaitlyn (and Trent) Day; an "honorary" granddaughter, Sarah Stilts; and three great- grandchildren, Hadley Day, Dylan Day, and Harper Day.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Burton and Danny Burton; and his first wife, Norma Burton.
Funeral services are 1:00 PM CST, Monday, January 13, 2025, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Stephen Stilts officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Full military honors will be provided by the Russell County Honor Guard.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM CST, until time of services.
