Glendo Grider, Sr.

Glendo Grider, Sr., of Russell Springs, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Russell County Hospital.  He was 84 years of age.

Glendo was born in Adair County’s White Oak Community on May 11, 1937, son of the late Hollis and Lavona McGowan Grider.  He gave most of his adult life to the service of his country in the United States Air Force.  He was a Vietnam War Veteran, where he earned three Bronze Service Stars and a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.  Glendo was sent around the world with the Air Force as Military Police.  He had been stationed at Grissom Air Force Base, in Indiana, Kadena Air Force Base, in Okinawa, Japan and Mount Laguna Air Force Base, in California.  He was proud of his many decorated achievements with the Air Force and retired from the military as a Master Sergeant.

Glendo was “one of a kind”.  His big booming voice and “larger than life” personality made an impression on all who knew him.

Glendo was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.  He loved being outdoors, loved to eat and enjoyed UK basketball.  He loved his family, his children and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Kelly Burton, Jr. (and Lisa), of Russell Springs, Glendo Grider, Jr. (and Laurel), of Nashville, Tennessee, and Julie Grider, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his brother, Wayne Grider (and Sheila), of Trafalgar, Indiana; his sister, Lola Holder (and Jim), of Russell Springs; his sister-in-law, Carla Grider, of Russell Springs; eight grandchildren, Ashley Hill, of Somerset, Joshua Burton, of Russell Springs, Lydia Stener, of Wisconsin, Hannah Perkins and Sarah Marquez, both of Clarksville, Tennessee, Rebekah Dudding, Brian Fisher, and Johnathon Fisher, all of Nashville, Tennessee; twelve great-grandchildren, Cooper Hill and Kinsley Hill, of Somerset, Jaxtyn Burton and Jensyn Burton, of Russell Springs, Emanuel Stener and Isaiah Stener, of Wisconsin, Reign Perkins and Phoenix Perkins and Abriel Marquez, Adam Marquez and Ann’Berlin Marquez, all of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Mycah Fisher, of Tennessee; a host of nieces and nephews; and his beloved care-givers who assisted his family in his care at home, Doc, Boss, Wesley, Patrick and Sandra.

Along with his parents, Glendo is preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Nell Ferneding; and his three brothers, Harvey Owen Grider, Donald Roe Grider and Edward Ray Grider.

Funeral services are 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Glendo Grider, Jr. and Bro. Kelly Burton, Jr. officiating.  Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Honor Guard of Russell County.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, until time for services in the funeral home chapel.
