Harold Daniel Schackow

Harold Daniel Schackow, of Russell Springs, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at Russell County Hospital.  He was 85 years of age.

Born September 29, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son of the late Harold and Bernice Rivard Schackow.  Harold was a former machine operator at Tecumseh Products and a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.  He enjoyed woodworking, mowing his yard, and tending to a garden.  He also enjoyed making hot salsa that no one else was able to eat.  Harold will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Schackow, of Russell Springs; three sons, Harold (and Cindy) Schackow, of Russell Springs, Kenneth Schackow, of Russell Springs, and Stephen Daniel, of Fortville, Indiana; two daughters, Tammy Schackow, of Jamestown, and Renea (and Aaron) Back of Bellevue, Ohio; a brother, Lawrence Schackow, of South Haven, Michigan; three sisters, Bernice Newkirk, of Farmers City, Illinois, Suzette (and Joe) Compton, of Big Rapids, Michigan, and Kathy (and John) Birks, of Ramona, California; seven grandchildren, Veronica (and Seth) Albright, Daniel Schackow, Sarah Baker, Samantha Grider, Cody Schackow, Andrew Back, and Ally Daniel; and seven great grandchildren, Liam Albright, Kyra Ellis, Kenden Grider, Serenity York, Daisalynn Baker, Zander Baker, and Adien Schackow.

In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy Schackow.

Funeral services are 12:00 PM CST Monday, July 8, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Billy Silverman officiating.  Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.  Full military honors will be provided by the Russell County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM CST Sunday, July 7, at the funeral home, and again at 8:00 AM Monday morning, until time of services.
