Hattie Jean Hughes

Hattie Jean Hughes, of Russell Springs, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Russell County Hospital.  She was 87 years of age.

Born on August 6, 1935, in Jabez, she was a daughter of the late George Ellis and Ina Popplewell Perkins.  Hattie was a member of The Church of God, in Franklin, Indiana.  She enjoyed her working in her flowers and gardening. Hattie loved her family and spending time with all of her grandchildren.  Hattie was a caring person that donated to many different organizations and was always looking for ways to help people.

Survivors include two sons, Phillip Hughes, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Greg (and Tonya) Hughes, of Russell Springs; a daughter, Cathy (and Danny) Carter, of Franklin, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Sheree Hughes, of New Palestine, Indiana; a brother, Roger (and Freda) Perkins, of Russell Springs; two sisters, Norma Ramlow, of Russell Springs, and Janice (and Ronnie) Decker, of Somerset; eight grandchildren, Shawn (and Craig) Griggs, Chad (and Amanda) Carter, Ryan (and Rachel) Carter, Amanda Hughes, Jared Hughes, Eric (and Danielle) Mason, Chelsea (and Ian) Williams, and Keith (and Gabrielle) Hughes; ten great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Hattie was preceded in death by her husband, Norris B. Hughes, who passed away March 18, 2007;  two sons, Alan Dale Hughes and Timmy L. Hughes; five brothers, Cosby Perkins, R.V. Perkins, Kenzel Perkins, Clifford Perkins, and Junior Perkins; and three sisters, Betty Perkins, Wanda Perkins, and Brenda Henderson. 

Funeral services are 1:00 PM CST Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bishop Danny L. Carter and Rev. Chad D. Carter officiating.  Burial will follow in the Popplewell Cemetery.

Visitation for the public will be from 10:00 AM CST, until time of services, Saturday, at the funeral home.

Chad Carter, Ryan Carter, Keith Hughes, Jared Hughes, Will Perkins, and Jayson Henderson, will serve as pallbearers.
