Jimmy Matney Obituary

Jimmy L. Matney, of Russell Springs, passed from this life on Tuesday evening, August 27, 2024, at his home, with his family at his side. He was 69 years, 2 months, and 16 days of age.

Born in Adair County, on June 11, 1955, Jimmy was one of four sons born to the union of the late Hollan and Lyda Corbin Matney. He was a faithful member of the Church at the Springs. Jimmy began his career at Bernard Funeral Home in 1992, became a Kentucky licensed Funeral Director on January 9, 1997, and later achieved co-ownership of the funeral home. Throughout his years of selfless service, Jimmy served a countless number of families during their time of loss. To know him was to love him. Jimmy was a true gentleman; he was a kind and selfless person who would go above and beyond for his family and friends, never seeking recognition or praise for himself.

Jimmy was an avid Louisville Cardinal fan, and enjoyed being outside, mowing his yard, gardening, and fishing. Most of all, Jimmy took the role of being the ultimate provider, husband, dad, and pa for his family the sole mission in his life. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Johnna Bernard Matney, of Russell Springs, who he married on June 4, 1982; his sons, Jason (and Rebecca) Matney, of Bowling Green, Adam (and Pam) Matney, of Georgetown, and Tyler (and Christin) Matney, of Russell Springs; his grandchildren, Katie Bunch, Ciara Matney, Blake Wooley, Bristol Matney, Brooks Matney, Tinslee Matney, Zeke Matney, and Griffin Matney; and his brothers, Bobby (and Mildred) Matney, of Columbia, and Mike (and Deborah) Matney, of Franklin, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his infant brother, Billy Wayne Matney.

Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Charles Shepherd and Matt Elkins officiating. Jimmy will be laid to rest in Russell Springs City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home and will continue on Saturday morning, from 8:00 A.M. until the time of services.

Pallbearers will be Jason Matney, Adam Matney, Tyler Matney, Cory Matney, John Michael Matney, Doug Matney, Blake Wooley, and Brooks Matney.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to Alzheimer's Association, 6100 Dutchmans Lane, Ste 401, Louisville, Kentucky 40205, or to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Kentucky 42503. Donations can also be made at the funeral home.
