John Sherman McDaniel, Jr. “Johnny”, 90, passed away peacefully at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on April 14, 2025.
Born on August 21, 1934, in Glasgow, Kentucky to John Sherman McDaniel, Sr. and Irene Miller McDaniel, Johnny graduated from Caverna High School. He attended the University of Louisville before being drafted into the Army where he served in El Paso, Texas. In the late 1980’s Johnny and his wife Mary Ann moved to Clifty Creek on Lake Cumberland in Jamestown, Kentucky. In recent years they have lived in nearby Russell Springs, Kentucky.
Johnny had a long career as a tobacco buyer for the American Tobacco company. But anyone who knew Johnny, knew he had a lifelong passion for antique cars, especially 1950’s Fords. Over the years he had numerous cars and loved restoring and working on them. He had gained many friends all over the nation that he met from the years of collecting.
Johnny is survived by his three children, Martha Smith of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Stacy Waller of Bath, Pennsylvania and John Sherman McDaniel III, of Naples, Florida. He has five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ann Asher McDaniel, who passed away in July of 2024.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated with no service to be held. The family would ask for prayers and a fond remembrance of him especially when you see an old classic car.
