Kevin Howard Obituary

Kevin Ross Howard, 76, of Jabez, Kentucky, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Born on August 12, 1948, in Flint, Michigan, Kevin was the son of Ross and June Bellinger Howard. A proud United States Army veteran, he served in Germany during the Vietnam War era. Kevin was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite of Miamisburg, Ohio.

Kevin was a gifted machinist and fabricator with a remarkable talent for fixing and building anything his mind envisioned. Once he set his mind to a project, there was no challenge he couldn’t overcome. Whether working in his beloved metal shop or restoring his wife Sharon’s 1979 Volkswagen Beetle, Kevin always had a “to-do” list filled with projects he passionately pursued. Known for his love of teaching and learning, his family often joked he was “better to have around than a Funk and Wagnalls.”

An avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and firearms aficionado, Kevin was also a recreational pilot who loved flying his Cessna. He was a generous man who never met a stranger, and his kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Kevin is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Frenzel Howard; his children, Tana Howard of Howell, Michigan; Ryan (Claudine) Howard of Alpena, Michigan; Devon Pearson of Dayton, Ohio; Derik Sommer of Morgantown, West Virginia; and Dylan (Tiffany) Sommer of Inwood, West Virginia. He is also survived by his twin sister, Sandra Hutchins of Fenton, Michigan; his sister, Sheila McCambridge, also of Fenton; and his cherished grandchildren, Kylie, Aloia, Thorin, Connell, Remy, Ozzy, Elowyn, Everett, Enola, Briar, and Maya.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ruel George Howard; his sister, Karen Kirshman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Mill Springs National Cemetery, 12:30 EST Monday, March 24, 2025, with Masonic Rites and full military honors.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bernard Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to leave condolences in the online guestbook at www.bernardfuneralhome.com
