Mary Orlena Sneed, widow of the late Bro. E. L. Sneed, earned her reward, passed from this earthly life and went to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 18, 2025, having attained the age of 92 years, 3 months and 22 days.
“Lena” as she was fondly called, was born in Adair County on September 27, 1932, daughter of the late Jim and Gertrude Scott Brown. At the young age of 6, Ms. Lena made her profession of faith in Christ Jesus. Her faithful servitude continued throughout her life, being a devoted pastor’s wife and later, after their son, Gene, surrendered to ministry, a devoted pastor’s mother. There were countless Sundays Ms. Lena would feed over 50 people after church. She was a seamstress, taking in alterations and sewing projects for everyone over the years. In younger days, Ms. Lena worked at the Brown Hotel in Louisville and then, for seven years, ran their family restaurant in Russell Springs, The Burger Palace.
Ms. Lena is survived by her son, Eugene Sneed, of Russell Springs; her special friend, who was thought of as a daughter, Jeannie Richard, of Campbellsville; a special nephew, Joe (and Susan) Richard, of Russell Springs; her grandchildren, John-John Richard and Brittany Butrum; nephews, Mickey Brown, Donald Brown and Bobby Brown; and nieces, Donna Jean Branham, Loretta Shake, Trish Cowles, Brenda Brown and Inez Blythe.
Along with her parents, Ms. Lena is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bro. Edwin L. Sneed; her brothers, Frank Brown, Herman Brown, Junior Brown, Austin Brown and Benny Brown; her sister, Callie Richard; her half-sister, Bertie Coomer; brothers-in-law, Cecil Sneed and Kenneth Sneed; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Curry and Linda Burton; and her nephew, Arlis Sneed.
Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Faith Temple Full Gospel Church in Royville, with Bro. John Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery, in Columbia.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Bernard Funeral Home, and will resume after 10:00 a.m., Thursday at the church, until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Faith Temple Full Gospel Church, 2112 West Highway 80, Russell Springs, KY 42642 or to the Gideons International for Bible placement.
