Linda Carroll Hicks Gentry, age 73, of Russell Springs, died at her home on January 11, 2022, following a long battle with multiple health issues. Linda, known by “Beautiful Star”, her Cherokee name, was born in New Liberty of Owen County, Kentucky, on June 9, 1948.
Preceding her in death are a set of twin boys; two daughters; father, Chester Hicks; mother, Lottie Jean Hicks Lee; sister, Cheryl Harris; brother, Wesley Hicks; sister, Beth White; and granddaughter, Ayla Jo Marcum.
Linda was a member of Scenic View Church of Christ; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; a Kentucky Colonel; a member of the Sunset Homemakers; and a member of the National Arbor Day Foundation. She was a retired nurse from Russell County Hospital.
She is survived by her son, David Ree Gentry (Karen), of Sparta, Kentucky; daughter, Della Ann Collins, of Nancy, Kentucky; daughter, Alice Marie Marcum (Jeff), of Russell Springs, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a very special sister, Betty Shearer (Jr.), of Russell Springs, Kentucky; a sister, Eva Cozine (Randy), of Sparta, Kentucky; and one brother, Ray Stull (Diana), of Crittenden, Kentucky.
Graveside services will be 4:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Beautiful Star Cemetery, 468 Breeding Road, Russell Springs, Kentucky, with Ada Lawson and Bro. Garrett Crawford officiating. Active pallbearers will be Colton Collins, Luke Collins, Dustin Shearer, Ethan Hale, Jameson Keen and Mathew Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jr. Shearer, Jeff Marcum, Alice Marcum and Della Collins.
Friends and family are welcome after 2:00 p.m., Thursday, until time for services, in Beautiful Star Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Pantry of Russell County, the Russell County Homemakers’ Sunset Club or to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503.
