Coach Lynn Taylor, of Russell Springs, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, in Somerset. He was 76 years, 5 months, and 16 days of age.
Born on August 26, 1949, in Harriman, Tennessee, he was a son born to the union of the late Spurgeon and Beatrice Potter Taylor. Coach was a graduate of Campbellsville University and Western Kentucky University. He was a US History teacher for 33 years and coached football for 36 years, in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, Gamaliel, Russell County High School and Campbellsville University. Coach was a faithful member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church, Sunday School teacher for the Faithful Followers Sunday School class and was a member of the Gideon’s International. Coach loved to sing; in earlier years, he was a member of the gospel group, “Happy Day Singers”, having recorded several albums. Coach loved people, and he was loved by all who knew him.
Coach is survived by his daughter, Sarah Taylor, of Russell Springs; his sister, Wanda Sue Bean, of Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Coach was preceded in death by his sisters, Marilyn Lamar, Willomae Hamiliton, Geraldine Burgess, and Joyce Moore.
Funeral services are 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Russell Springs First Baptist Church, with Brother Christian Naylor officiating. Special music by Angela Emerson and Lindsay Lyon. Burial will follow in Russell Springs City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Monday, February 16, 2026, and will continue on Tuesday morning, beginning at 8:00 A.M. until the time of services, at Russell Springs First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gideon’s International. Donations can be made at the church or at the funeral home.
