Modine Hall

Barbara Modine Hall, of Russell Springs, was surrounded by her family when she passed from this life on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Russell County Hospital, having attained the age of 91 years and 6 days.

Modine was born Saturday, February 3, 1934, at home in the Font Hill community, daughter of the late James William and Luona Roy Withers.  She married Walter Theodore Hall on April 5, 1969, and they had celebrated 23 years of marriage at the time of his passing.  Modine was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church.  She loved her family and extended family, being considered a “Grandma” to many.  Modine loved to play card games, loved breakfast food and coffee and looked forward to meeting up Thursday nights with her dinner group.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (and Bill) Posey, of Russell Springs; her granddaughter, Brenna (and Zac) Oakes, of Russell Springs; a very close sister-in-law, Evona Withers, of Russell Springs; a very close niece, Donna Jackson, of Russell Springs; Hayley Popplewell, best friend to Brenna and one who was considered like a granddaughter to Modine; a special great-niece, Jennifer Kempf; Modine’s little friend, Max; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Along with her parents, Modine is preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her siblings, Garnet Elvin “Red” Withers, Arnold Withers, Arnet G. Withers, Orma Smith, Rebecca Tucker and Beulah Hawkins; and her life-long friend, Ada Thornton.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Bobby Oakes officiating.  Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery.

Visitation for Ms. Modine will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home, and will resume after 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, and continue until time of the funeral service.
