Myrtle Christine Sharp Rexroat, of Rexroat Road, in Russell Springs, passed away peacefully, on Thursday evening, May 30, 2024, at her home. She was 106 years, 7 months, and 1 day of age.
Ms. Myrtle was born in Dunnville, on October 29, 1917, to the union of the late William T. and Flora Emerson Sharp Perryman. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Good Tidings Baptist Church. Ms. Myrtle was a hard worker throughout her life, having owned and operated a farm with her husband and being a well-known seamstress. She would make clothing for her family and neighbors, only using a Singer foot pedal sewing machine. If she didn’t have a pattern for her sewing needs, she would make it. When Ms. Myrtle was in her 70’s, she received her GED and later took college classes. She was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, by Governor Matha Lane Collins.
Ms. Myrtle leaves behind a family of five generations, including her son, George Ronald (and Ann) Rexroat, of Russell Springs; her son-in-law, Billy Sprague, of Russell Springs; her daughter-in-law, Nadine Rexroat, of Jamestown, Tennessee; fifteen grandchildren; six step grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Myrtle was preceded in death by her stepfather, Luther Perryman; her husband, Hollie Pierce Rexroat, Sr., who passed away on November 3, 2001; her sons, Johnny Rexroat, Hollie Pierce Rexroat, Jr., and William “Bill” Neat; her daughter, Ohreta Sprague; her daughters-in-law, Ann Marie Rexroat and Donna Neat; her brother, Oscar Sharp; and her sisters, Donnie Sharp Hart and Ila Bunker.
Funeral services are 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Brother Miles Landon Wilson officiating. Ms. Myrtle will be laid to rest beside her husband in Good Tidings Cemetery.
