Nancy Louise Leigh was born August 8, 1940, at her grandparents’ home, located off Highway 910 in the Irvin’s Store Area. She passed from this life on November 27, 2024, making her 84 years of age. She is survived by one brother, David Wade Leigh of Seymore, Indiana; and three first cousins, Beverly Woosley, Avert Oneal Wade and Bruce Wade. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Alford Leigh and Ruby Leigh. Nancy was of the Nazarene faith.
Nancy’s parents lived in Somerset, Kentucky. Nancy grew up in the Somerset area and attended school there. During summer vacation months, she stayed with her grandparents, Tobias and Victoria Wade, known as “Pop” and “Mom”. She had a very close relationship with them from childhood until their passing. She chose many years ago to be buried at the site next to her grandparents.
Nancy’s parents moved to Greenwood, Indiana during her high school years. It was there she graduated from Whiteland High School in 1958. After graduation, she attended Trevecca Nazarene College, in Nashville, Tennessee for two years. After college she worked for Capital Indemnity for three months and later worked for Indiana University in the Radiological Sciences Department. She retired from that position in 2003.
Nancy moved to Russell County in September of 2015, occupying her grandparents’ home. She was thrilled that she could live in the house her Dad built and the home of her grandparents. Nancy was a nature lover. She was very excited that she could walk by the creek and through the woods, observing the wildlife in their natural habitat.
Nancy was a very private person. She wanted to “think about things” before making any quick decisions. In 2021, it was necessary that Nancy have both legs amputated, and she became a resident of Fair Oaks Nursing Home. Although confined to a hospital bed and a wheelchair, she maintained a positive attitude and always had a big smile when a visitor came to see her.
We can all learn a lesson from Nancy- and that is- “In spite of adversity, stay positive and have a good attitude”.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. CST Sunday, December 1, 2024, in Salem Cemetery, with Bro. Joe Gosser officiating.
