Ruby Marie Tarter

Ruby Marie Tarter, of Windsor, passed from this life on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.  She was 92 years of age.

Ms. Ruby was born August 8, 1931, in Casey County, daughter of the late Isom and Ruth Luttrell Childress.  She married Vertis Tarter at Bro. Orlando Rogers’ home in Casey County, on December 10, 1949.  Ms. Ruby was a long-time member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church.  For some time, as a young lady, Ms. Ruby taught school in the Pumpkin Chapel one room schoolhouse.  She was known as a “Mother to everybody”, helping raise and care for all the children in the family.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Tarter, of Windsor; her nieces and nephew, Kathy (and Paul) Davenport, Chandra (and Michael) Dalton and Alan Childress, all of Windsor; her great-nephew, Brandon (and Beth) Davenport, of Windsor; and her great-great-niece, Gabby Davenport, also of Windsor.

Along with her parents, Ms. Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Vertis; her brother, Elmer Childress; and her sister, Golda Meece.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., EST, Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Cedar Springs Baptist Church, with Bro. Bobby Oakes officiating.  Interment will follow in Cedar Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 10:00 a.m., EST, at Cedar Springs Church, until time for services.
