Sandra McGowan

Sandra Lynn Shepherd McGowan, of Russell Springs, passed from this life on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.  She was 71 years of age.

Sandra was born Sunday, July 5, 1953, in Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter of the late William Arvol and Anna Belle Gider Shepherd.  She married James McGowan in 1968.  Sandra was an active, long-time member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  She loved to play piano and would play at church any time she was asked.  Sandra liked singing karaoke and going to thrift stores.  She loved to sew and enjoyed making quilts for her family. 

She was a lady who treated everyone with fairness and would do anything in her power to help any one in need.  Sandra was a caring person who always saw the best in others.  She was proud of her house and kept it in order; always clean and tidy.  Sandra loved her family and friends dearly and was a “mother to everyone” who was blessed to know her. 

She is survived by her loving husband, James; her daughter, Keresa McGowan Bunch, of Russell Springs; her brother-in-law, Phillip McBeath, of Russell Springs; her two grandchildren, Ryan Bunch, of Russell Springs, and Kaylea (and Jason) Cooper, of Russell Springs; and her great-granddaughter, Chelsea Bunch, of Russell Springs.

Besides her parents, preceding Sandra in death is her son, Shane McGowan; her daughter, Krystal McGowan; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chester and Lela Ashbrook McGowan; her sister, Judy Shepherd McBeath; and her sister-in-law, Bonnie McGowan.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Preston Richardson and Bro. Larold Gosser officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Mark McQueary, Kyle Weber, Marcus Ryder, Daniel Buster, Allen McGowan and Jordan Galliher.

Visitation will be held after 10:30 a.m., Sunday, until time of the funeral service.
