Vanhoy Johnson Obituary

Vanhoy Johnson passed from this earth December 29, 2020, at his home in Hillsboro, Indiana.  He was born in Russell County, Kentucky, September 20, 1932.

He was the son of Otha Anderson Johnson and Lena Snow (Orton) Sharp. He was preceded in death by a brother, Welby Johnson; a sister, Julie Ann Johnson; and a still born son, Van Johnson, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Patty (Cook) Johnson, whom he married July 9, 1955; a sister, Robby Nell Lloyd of Hamilton, Illinois; a brother, Jerome “Jerry” (Carmen) Johnson of Copperopolis, California; a son, Gary (Joanie) Johnson of Veedersburg, Indiana; a daughter, Judy (Matt) Ross of DeMossville, Kentucky; grandkids, Abby (Brian) Harshbarger of Hillsboro, Indiana, Stephen (Leanne) Johnson of Lafayette, Indiana; step grandkids, Monica Ross of Foster, Kentucky, and Eric Ross of DeMossville, Kentucky; Great-grandkids, Julia Harshbarger, Jacob Harshbarger, Josie Harshbarger, Libby Johnson, Gwyn Johnson, all of Indiana.

Van retired from Ford Motor Co. truck plant in Louisville Kentucky. He lived in Louisville until his retirement and then Russell Springs, Kentucky for over 20 years, moving to Hillsboro, Indiana, in 2017. He loved to hunt and fish. In 2018, at age 86, he limited on his first day of dove season. He was a loyal University of Kentucky Basketball fan all his life.

He was known for his quiet strength, his humble heart, his love for His Lord, and his complete devotion to the love of his life, Patty, for 65 years.

 He was a member of the South Jefferson Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, then Russell Springs Christian Church in Russell Springs, Kentucky, and then the Sterling Christian Church, in Veedersburg, Indiana.

Friends may call at the Bernard Funeral Home, Russell Springs, on Tuesday, January 5th, from 5:00-8:00 P.M.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 6th, at 11:00 A.M. with Carroll Egnew and Chris Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the Reeder Cemetery.

Social distancing guidelines must be followed by everyone in attendance. Facial coverings are required.
