Virginia (Reese) Russell

Virginia Reese Russell, of Dunnville, passed away from this life Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation, in Jamestown.  She was 99 years of age.

Born January 5, 1924, in Science Hill, she was a daughter of the late Wagner Asa and Lossie Eller Reese.  Virginia was a homemaker who also held other jobs through the years.  During World War II, she was employed at a defense plant in Detroit, Michigan.  Other vocations were WTLO Radio in Somerset, Casey County Sheriff’s office, Windsor Post Office, and Rippetoe Clothing Store in Russell Springs. Virginia even found time for teaching and instruction as she spent time as a 4-H leader, as well as a ladies and children Sunday School teacher. She was a wonderful cook and baker that was well-known for her delicious yeast rolls and pies.  Virginia blessed others with her kitchen talents by taking her food to church dinners and sharing with people in her community.  She was long-time, faithful member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Russell, of Frankfort, and Steve (and LuAnne) Russell, of Windsor; a sister, Leona Henry, of Science Hill; three grandchildren, Stefanie (and Kerry) Ray, of Birmingham, Alabama, Maggie (and Caleb) Ashe, of Shalimar, Florida, and Matthew Russell, of Shelbyville, Kentucky; and two great grandchildren, Madison Ray, and Brooks Ray.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ervil Russell; and two sisters, Louise Vaught, and Christine Abbott.

Funeral services are 12:00 PM CST Monday, October 30, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home with Brother Bobby Oakes officiating.  Burial will follow in Mill Springs National Cemetery.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM CST Monday, at the funeral home, until time of services.
