Clyde Nelson Hughes, 88, of Russell Springs, died Sunday, July 6, 2014

at this home. He was born November 23, 1925 in Russell County to the late

Carson & Orpha Nelson Hughes. He was a heavy equipment operator.

Clyde wa a Navy Seebee in World War II, attached to the 4th Marines

Division. It was on the Pacific island of Iwo Jima that he witnessed the

historic raising of the American flag atop Mt. Suribachi in February 1945.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne

Tarter Hughes; 3 brothers, Kimmel, Curtis, & Cordell Hughes

Survivors

3 daughters: Lisa (Robert) Sears, Lititz, PA

                    Michelle (Michael) Felkins, Lebanon, TN

                    Holly Hughes, Lexington, Ky

6 grandchildren: Jason, Eric, Joseph, Jacob, Campbell, & Candace

1 brother: Arlo Hughes, Russell Springs

Funeral service for Clyde Nelson Hughes will be 10 AM. Wednesday,

July 9, 2014 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Estes

officiating. Visitation will be 5-9 PM. Tuesday.

Burial in the Russell Springs City Cemetery

Pallbearers: Michael Felkins, Robert Sears, Jason Sears, Eric Sears,

                    Joseph Felkins, Jacob Felkins, Campbell Wade

The family requests memorials to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or to

the Russell Springs City Cemetery. These can be made at the funeral home.
